RUNWAY REPORT.....Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week: Maison Margiela Artisanal Fall 2018
Raw Couture--Maison Margiela Artisanal Collection Fall 2018
WHAT: Maison Margiela Artisanal Collection Fall/Winter 2018 by Creative Director John Galliano.
INSPIRATION: Galliano explained in his podcast (you can listen to it HERE) that the collection was the "raw, raw, undiluted essence" of the house. There were overt suggestions of marginalized societies, homeless, migrants, nomadic living..."Survival" clothing, wrapped in plastic...even homages to Edie Beale and her infamous repurposing of skirts (worn upside down) or garments worn back to front.
Exposed Techniques--Maison Margiela Artisanal Collection Fall 2018
SEEN ON THE RUNWAY: In this--as in many of John Galliano's Maison Margiela's Artisanal Collections, the "secrets" of haute couture were exposed--literally--seen in the horsehair interfacings of the jackets, the hand-sewn basting stitches, the tack-stitching holding together pieces of foam, scuba, or wool fabrications (seen in photos above).
Selfie Time--Some models had mobile phone strapped onto their ankles and arms filming the audience--Maison Margiela Artisanal Collection Fall 2018
